Memorabilia You Should Save Forever

We have all come to the point during the moving process in which we have had to make tough decisions regarding what to keep and what to throw away. When you move, you are forced to go through the incredible, endless mountain of possessions you have acquired over the years. Who knew this much stuff could even fit in a house. Not everything is going to make the cut as you make a humble home out of your new abode. Some things are just going to have to get thrown away. Today, we will look at a few pieces of memorabilia that you should make sure gets put in the “keep” pile.

Select Children’s Toys

WE have all heard the saying, “kids grow up so far.” These words have become ubiquitous because they are true. Kids seem to grow up in the blink of an eye. It almost feels like time travel. For this reason, you should make sure to save some of their more treasured old toys. They may not play with them anymore, but when you take them out years down the line, the memories attached to those more innocent times will come flooding back for you and them. Keep a few select children’s toys, trust us.

Family Heirlooms

Family heirlooms which have been passed down generation to generation must be saved. There are items which not only may have monetary value, but they have immense sentimental value as well. Whether it be a beautiful antique brooch passed down to you by your great-grandmother, or a stamp collection put together by your husband’s dad, these are items to keep around. Put them in a special box and mark it as fragile. When you move into your new home, put them somewhere safe to ensure they will be passed down to your kids when they come of age.

Environmentally Friendly Moving and Storage Ideas

Earth day may have come and gone in April, but that does not mean we should stop thinking about the best ways to care for the environment. We only have one world and it is important to take care of it. From daily energy use, to the waste we produce while moving and storing our belongs, there are always change we can make to become more environmentally friendly. Today, we will look at a few environmentally friendly moving and storage ideas.

Renting not Buying Supplies

When most of us move we immediately go out and buy a bunch of cardboard boxes. While these cardboard boxes are often recyclable, even recycling has a small impact on the environment. There are many companies that will let you rent storage supplies such as large plastic bins and boxes. You can pack using these without having to think about your guilty conscious. Some companies will even deliver these supplies right to your front door so you don’t even have to go shopping! Sounds great to us.

An Idea from Moving Day

If you ever moved here in Arizona, especially during the summer, you know that the mix of physical activity and the hot, dry climate will force you to drink a lot of water. One time when we were moving we started paying attention to how many plastic water bottles our moving team was going through. It was A LOT.This gave us the idea of getting the entire moving team eco-friendly aluminum reusable water bottles. This investment is still paying off years down the road. Consider making the conversion yourself before your next move. You will be well hydrated (very important), AND you will minimize your ecological footprint. That sounds like a win-win to us.
